How do you deal with all the “what ifs” of the world?!

What kind of person are you? Would you pick a real live roller coaster at an amusement park or just opt for the Sim’s City computer animated version?
I recently read a discussion question on a forum that I visit lately. It was someone from America explaining a horrific train accident that occurred in another country. They said that when the train wrecked it caused a lot of fear and ruckus. She also explained that many people were hurt and some were even killed. The member then proceeded to ask all other members if they would allow the fear of what could happen to force them into staying inside their homes at all times. If there were any people out there who would just stay home in efforts to try to ensure their safety. The one thing that really got me about all of this is that when explaining the crash, she stated that the accident was right in the middle of a community where people lived, which is what made it such a horrific accident! I personally do not understand the lock yourself inside the house to stay safe way of living!
I would never let the “what ifs” of the world stop me from doing anything that can bring me pleasure. If you look hard enough at every situation you can always find a negative in it! I work very hard to try to live my life in a positive life. I am not naive and do not ignore realistic fears, but to me natural disasters, or accidents are not worth ending the enjoyment or fun in my life.
Whenever I hear people say well what if you get into an accident while making a long car trip, or what if you hurt yourself it kind of makes me chuckle. I then smile and kindly remind them that you can fall down the stairs in your house and break your back, you can slip on a wet kitchen floor and get a concussion, you can walk across the street to check your mail and be hit by your neighbor, you can walk your dog and be mugged, and most importantly… anything is possible! If you may get hurt wouldn’t you rather have an AWESOME story to tell about how you were hurt?
I enjoy the extreme sports, I really enjoy doing things that can really hurt you, the funny thing is every time I have been hurt in my life was while I was doing pretty simple and routine tasks in daily life. I just got back from camping while camping I was knee boarding, wake boarding, and skiing. I hurt my hand while wakeboarding because it was a silly operator error holding the rope handle too close to the board before getting up then hitting a wake causing my fingers to be smashed between the two. My fingers hurt so badly! However, by the time we came home three days later they were no longer black and just seemed mildly bruised. My boyfriend then made fun of me because he said that I enjoy have battle wounds to show that I risked something and had a blast doing it! I would have to completely agree! I guess I just think of life as, when it is your time to go it simply is your time, so you might as well enjoy everything to the fullest while you are here!
What do you all think? What would you do?

Personally I wouldn’t miss out on a moment of life to ’stay safe’. To stay safe that way would make for an utterly boring existence…
Well that just strikes me as odd. Staying inside all the time won’t protect you since a plane could land in your living room while you’re watching TV or a car could end up in your bedroom.

Judyplantz, I competely agree! I don’t like staying inside one beautiful day because I think it is too boring. I think that your “utterly boring existence” sums up that way of life pretty well!
Soapgirl, I hope I do not offend you when I say this, but when I read your comment it made me laugh pretty hard. I completely agree with you, I also think it is much more often that I hear about hearing car’s being drove into houses than I hear about major trains derailing and killing many!
